Journalists' approach to representing female politicians in the media

The thesis focuses on gender aspects of the journalistic profession and their professional discourse. Specifically, it focuses on how people in the media approach representations of female politicians. Women in politics are gender stereotyped in the media, and they also tend to be portrayed differently and in different contexts compared to male politicians. This is manifested, for example, by the fact that people in the media pay more attention to the private lives of female politicians, focusing more on their physical appearance or their age. Therefore, the aim of this paper was to investigate how these different representations of women in politics may be contributed to by journalists themselves. As part of the research part, semi-structured interviews were conducted with eleven female and male journalists working in different Czech media. The collected data were analysed qualitatively using the grounded theory method. The research shows that journalists attach low importance to gender in political reporting. Therefore, the gender of female and male politicians does not influence the way they themselves are reported in the media. Politická satira na sociálních sítích

The bachelor's thesis deals with the issue of ridicule of politics and politicians in the current media environment. Due to the rapid changes in the media landscape and the new possibilities of the Internet, the relationship between the media and democracy has changed. This also reshaped the character of political satire. The theoretical part explains the relationship between the media and democracy. Subsequently, attention is paid to the changes that satire has undergone, not only from a historical point of view but also from the wave of digitization. The phenomenon of the last few years, the so-called usergenerated satire, which is a satire spread by media users (prosumers), is also explained in more detail. The practical part is focused on the description of the Czech Instagram satirical account TMBK. The aim of the work is to show on the example typical features for prosumer content and to summarize a new kind of satire.

The diploma thesis Public sphere in networked society concerns about the relation of public sphere and cyberspace. Cyberspace is defined as new social institution, which is not embodied Habermasian normative ideal of critical public sphere, but in contrary it constitute new forms of inequalities and new forms of fragmentarization and commercialization. Explored are therefore also theories which critically deal with concept of public sphere and better describe the reality of cyberspace. The expansion of Cyberspace and horizontal communication network also relate with transformation of contentious politics. The thesis provides an overview of historical development of new action repertoire of contention - virtual sit-in. As an embodiment of all these societal shifts, which are seen as an elements of change in power balance, is presented Operation Payback orchestrated by hacktivist group Anonymous. This thesis is, in its theoretical part, focused on the concepts describing questions of normative theories of the press, public sphere and current journalist's position within the media organizations. Research part examines the factors influencing editors and their normative ideals about journalist profession. Through qualitative research we found the conclusions which represent personal, organizational and external factors influencing their work.

Women 's Emancipation in Žilina from 1918 to 1945

The topic of the thesis is women's emancipation movement in Žilina introduced on the basis of an example of local department of Slovak Women's Association Živena between 1918 and 1945. To start with, the thesis presents the situational context of the town in question and its surrounding regions as well as the Živena Association. It deals with the composition of the department's members and the ways it influenced the selection of adressees, the public's attitude towards the department and self-perception of members' role in the public sphere. The thesis analyses also the chosen strategies of the department's admission into the town's public space, external and internal reasons for choosing them and their success rate in the case of promoting women's emancipation thoughts among the local public.Considering the chosen time period, the thesis also focuses on the development of the studied topics influenced by political and social changes taking place in the region of current Slovakia in the covered time period.

Emotion expressed in public space communication

This study focuses on the internet as a public space and explores the emotionality of this area. It is also approached as a case study which investigates the relationship between emotionality and commercialization. In the theoretical part, the concept of the public space and especially its changes that came with the internet and social networks is specified for the reader, to provide a general overview essential to the results of this work. Furthermore, the theme of the communication via internet is defined and the identification of emotions in media communication is explained in the theoretical part. The practical part analyses in which intensity the mass media use the tools of the expressibility on their facebook profiles. These mass media were purposely chosen, one being commercial and the next one the public service television, whose function is to support the social cohesiveness and to cultivate the language. The representatives are television TV Nova and radio Rádio Impuls as the commercial media, television Česká televize and radio Český rozhlas as the public service media. The findings of this thesis provide the insight into the issues and point out the difficult position of the public service media on the social networks.

The Access of Economical Analysts to the Czech News Agency and daily Press

The thesis, The Access of Economic Analysts to the Czech News Agency (CTK) and daily Press, researches the paths that analysts who provide economic news commentary utilize to access the CTK news and daily press. The thesis focuses on the impact on editors' daily routines of utilizing such sources. Further, the thesis focuses on the hierarchy of analysts' access to the news and delineates the relationship between the journalist and his sources. In the theoretical portion of the thesis, the author defines basic approaches to the study of news coverage, information sources in media contents, and organizational routines. The author presents Leon V. Sigal's three basic types of communication channels and draws on Paul Manning's source theory. In the ensuing chapters, the author discusses the rules of source selection and the relationship shifts between journalists and their sources. Further, he elucidates Jürgen Hagerman's concept of "public sphere," Antonio Gramsci's Theory of the Hegemonic Media, and Noam Chomsky's and Edward S. Herman's propaganda model. The research portion of the thesis is based on the author's in-depth interviews with eight economic analysts. Rap Scene as a Public Sphere: How Political Criticism Appears in Czech Rap and How Its Consequences in Public Relations

Diploma thesis Rap Scene as a Public Sphere: How Political Criticism Appears in Czech Rap and How Its Consequences in Public Relations presents Czech rap subculture in the context of traditional and modern approaches to cultural studies. Work deals with Czech rap as a public sphere that has the opportunity to speak to broad fan bases through its content, to establish public discourse and to shape the way of listeners' thinking about public affairs. The diploma thesis focuses on the politicization of rap and politically motivated texts by the authors of the Czech rap scene. The diploma thesis includes content analyzes of selected songs of the Czech rap underground and mainstream scene, which are interpreted with context to approaches to the study of subcultures and pop culture. The research includes in-depth interviews with Czech musicians and analyzes of other media interviews of some authors. The primary goal of the research is to find out the motivation and demotivation of Czech rap artists to enter into a public debate on political issues by their songs. The thesis reveals how Czech rappers understand their own position within the system of the majority society and answers questions about the current form of Czech and global rap music production.

Conceptual History of the term Anthropocene

The word Anthropocene has been used in academia in many cases in the last decade. Geologists and stratigraphers believe that man's influence intervents so much with nature that they propose to call by the term a whole new geological era. This would have far-reaching consequences for (social) science in terms of interdisciplinarity. Due to the topicality of the theme, the diploma thesis aims to monitor the intersection of the term Anthropocene using the conceptual theory of Reinhart Koselleck, and thus find out whether and how the word spreads to public sphere. The first theoretical part presents the sources, maps the reflection of the term in the literature of social sciences and puts the work into a theoretical and methodological framework from the perspective of the history of concepts. It introduces Koselleck's theory of transition phases and explanes its application to the research field using modified criteria. The methodological character of the work is a comparative case study, heuristically grasped by content (textual) analysis of a media text.
